Understanding The Art Of Zen With The Mystic Messenger - How To Get Zen

mystic messenger how to get zen

Understanding The Mystic Messenger by John McDonald is a great little book on the subject of Zen. I myself am a convert to the Eastern Spirituality and have read quite a few books on the subject, however this one is different. Unlike other Zen books, it does not feel disjointed or disorganized. The tone of the book is very smooth and flows easily from topic to topic. This makes it easy to review and learn from.

One of the things I like about The Mystic Messenger is that it is not at all philosophical. It is very practical and real. John McDonald does an amazing job of showing us how we can live better and be happier as individuals by following simple instructions he presents in this text. If you are someone who wants a simple life with no fuss, then this is definitely a good place to start.

In terms of religion, John McDonald presents Buddhism very clear and concisely without slandering or trying to convert anyone at all. I have many friends who are practicing Buddhists and while they certainly have their own spiritual beliefs and practices, I don't try to convert anyone. I simply believe in the Buddha's teachings and what he represents. I follow his example and try to live by his example.

Understanding the Art of Zen with the Mystic Messenger - How to Get Zen

So if you are wondering how to become a Zen Buddhist and follow the path of the Buddha, this book should give you some insight. It may help you determine which path is right for you. But in my opinion, the best way to understand and follow this path is to live like one and experience it for yourself first hand. That is the way to really get it and live a life as a Zen Buddhist.

What I mean by this is, find someone who is a practicing Buddhist and ask them as to how to get to this state of life. You may be able to get a few helpful pointers from this person. If not, you can always search online or in books for information on how to get to that point. Or perhaps go to a class or retreat where you can experience this state of life with other students. This is a wonderful method of learning about this fascinating way of life.

In The Mystic Messenger, John McDonald has done an amazing job of presenting the true nature of Buddhism and of Eastern mysticism. He presents Buddhism in a very simple manner. He does not try to get you to get more than you already want or need to. He presents it in such a way that it is easy to understand. So if you are a beginner, you won't be lost. You will get enough instruction to make your way through this wonderful religion.

Some of the topics that you may find in this book include the following: Birth, Birthless, Aging, Bliss, Duties, Demigods, Meditation, Mind, Nature, Nirvana, Practice, Prayers, Renunciation, Searching, Wisdom, and Understanding. These topics cover almost everything that could possibly be related to Zen and the Buddhist way of life. Actually there are more subjects that he could not get into in this book. However, I think that if you read this book, you would have a good idea of what he meant by each topic. That is all I can say about this book.

I found this to be a quick and easy read. I absorbed the information quickly and didn't have to do much thinking. The techniques are simple and easily applied. If you are a beginner, who wants to get started with Zen, this book will probably be enough to get you started. If you are a person wanting to deepen your understanding of Zen, this book will likely stand out as an excellent reference.
